Abstract
User involvement in mental health services has been increasingly emphasized during the developmental history of psychosocial rehabilitation. These phenomena include peer-support activities among psychiatric clients, many kinds of user-run services, various advocacy activities, and so on. All of them have been developed under strong influence from the ¡¯Recovery paradigm¡¯, which was originated from consumer/survivor movements. It has been proved that these user involvement activities have significant beneficial effect for the recovery from severe mental illness, especially in terms of overcoming stigma, empowerment of clients, corrective effects on distorted systems, providing new knowledge of illness, as well as broad positive influences on user themselves. In this article, the pros and cons of current user involvement in mental health services will be discussed. And solutions for some problems and future research agendas will be suggested
